National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is fast approaching. It is a time to remember, reflect and acknowledge a tragic chapter in Canada’s history, and its lasting effects, plays an essential role in advancing truth and reconciliation. Coinciding with Orange Shirt Day, the orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that “Every Child Matters”.
In 2021, the Canadian government made September 30 an official federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR). It works together with Orange Shirt Day to promote education and healing.
The High River Performing Arts Foundation (HRPAF) are holding an event ahead of NDTR and are inviting you to attend: “Please join us Saturday Sept 19, 7pm at The Venue for an evening exploring Truth and Reconciliation: Becoming An Ally. All are welcome. RSVP thevenuehighriver@gmail.com”
Truth and Reconciliation: Becoming An Ally will feature a screening of “Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair,” and a Q&A with guest speaker Joan Young.
