Alberta Parks has some warnings up for problematic bears in a few areas. On Friday, warnings were released for several areas around Fish Creek Provincial Park in Calgary, and includes the areas of Bebo Grove, Shannon Terrace and Votiers Flats, as a black bear has been spotted during daylight hours.
Officials are warning that bears can show up at any time, even with an advisory active. Be sure to carry bear spray in those areas, and know how to use it. Pets should be kept on leash, and residents are asked to travel in groups and make lots of noise. Additional bear sightings can be reported to Alberta Parks at 403-591-7755.
Elsewhere in the province, a bluff-charging grizzly bear has resulted in a bear closure, which is impacting Smutwood Peak, Tryst Lake and Commonwealth Peak areas in the Spray Valley Provincial Park, just west of Cochrane.
Hikers in those areas are encouraged to carry bear spray, know how to use it, travel in groups and make lots of noise. The closure kicked in on September 19th, and will stay in place until further notice. Bear sightings and incidents can be reported to 310-LAND, or 5263.
