Alberta drivers are set to get some relief at the pumps. The Government of Alberta is suspending provincial fuel taxes until the end of the year.
Premier Danielle Smith says the province is scrapping its fuel tax for three months, starting October 1.
Smith made the announcement during an address to Calgary businesses on Tuesday.
That means drivers could save 13 cents per litre on gasoline and diesel.
The move follows Alberta’s $100 energy rebate program launched earlier this year as fuel prices climbed. The rebate program faced criticism over the online application process, with some eligible Albertans choosing not to apply.
The federal government has also suspended its fuel excise tax until the end of January, which is expected to save drivers up to 10 cents per litre on gasoline.
Fuel prices have risen sharply amid disruptions to global oil supplies, including the impact of the conflict involving the U.S. and Iran and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
