A single-engine propeller plane made an unplanned landing on the Trans-Canada Highway inside Banff National Park on Tuesday afternoon, surprising drivers who captured the unusual scene on video and shared it online.
RCMP reported that mechanical problems forced the pilot to set the aircraft down shortly before 3 p.m. in the right-hand lane, just short of the Red Earth Wildlife Overpass near Castle Junction.
The stretch of road was clear of traffic at the moment of touchdown, and the plane remained undamaged with no one injured.
After obtaining approval from Parks Canada and the Transportation Safety Board, the pilot carried out the necessary repairs beside the highway.
By approximately 4:40 p.m. the aircraft was airborne again, continuing its journey to Red Deer.
