Medicine Hat College is partnering with the Miywasin Friendship Centre and the Firekeepers Women’s Society to host a community event on September 30 in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The free public gathering is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. outside the main entrance of Medicine Hat College.
Attendees will include Indigenous Elders, community leaders, representatives from Treaty 4, Treaty 7 and the Métis Nation, elected officials, educational partners, students and local residents.
The program features a one-kilometer walk for reconciliation, storytelling guided by Indigenous Elders, a smudge ceremony, a blanket ceremony, an honour song and a round dance.
Organizers describe the evening as a chance for reflection, learning and advancing reconciliation.
