On September 30th, Heritage Park will play host to Dancing in Their Honour: Truth and Reconciliation. An Indigenous Market will be at the park all day, from 10am to 9pm. Live music will be the feature for 4pm’s “Music is Medicine”, which features live music and performances in the Plaza from 4pm to 6pm, and afterwards the Powwow will run from 6pm-9pm.
The event looks to bring the community together through song, dance, food and art, while honouring residential school survivors and those who didn’t make it home. The day will also discuss and recognize the ways the residential school system continues to affect Indigenous families and communities.
Anyone who self-identifies as Indigenous at the front gates will receive free admission, as well as Heritage Park Members and Heritage Club VIPS. Tickets can be found here.
