Southern Alberta drivers will be excited to know the Highway 3 twinning project is nearing it’s completion. Crews are in preparations for the opening of the four lane highway, but motorists should still be aware of changing traffic patterns, and revised stop locations.

The opening is set to roll out in phases, and Phase 1 will mark the completion of final pavement markings and road lighting. During this phase, temporary detours will still be in place.

During Phase 2, eastbound traffic between Taber and the Grassy Lake Detour will be shifted onto new eastbound lanes, and westbound traffic will remain as-is. Drivers should watch out for updated traffic control measures, and new stop sign locations.

And finally, Phase 4 will see the removal of temporary detour infrastructure and pavement work, while completing final clean up work. Temporary lane closures can be expected, as well as reduced speed limits in areas where work is ongoing.

Phase 2 is set to begin tomorrow, October 24th. Drivers should be prepared to slow down, follow posted signage and drive with caution as crews continue their work.
