This Sunday, November 8th is Indigenous Veteran’s Day. Indigenous veterans have been involved in conflicts since the first World War, even when service to their country required the loss of Indian Status.

You can attend a Remembrance Day Powwow, taking place at the Kainai Multipurpose Building on November 8th, with Grand Entry set for 2pm. The event is put on by the Kainai Headdress Society, which was founded by World War 1 Indigenous veterans.

We got to speak with President JR Fox of the Kainai Headdress Society, and asked about the history of the organization and the Remembrance Day Powwow.

JR talks about the importance of educating the youth on the sacrifices made by Indigenous veterans.

We asked about the significance of the headdress ceremonies.

JR talks about his experience as an Indigenous veteran in 2003.

Doors will open at the Kainai Multipurpose Building at 12pm, on Sunday November 8th. Anyone, and everyone is invited, and encouraged to attend.
