Medicine Hat is celebrating Louis Riel Métis Week, honouring Métis history, culture and the legacy of Louis Riel.

The Medicine Hat Métis District is excited to invite the citizens and community to celebrate Métis Week Nov. 16-22, 2026, with Louis Riel Day observed on November 16th.

The week is an opportunity to learn more about Métis traditions, celebrate community and recognize the contributions of Métis people across Alberta and Canada.

We caught up with District Captain for the Medicine Hat Metis District, Heather Seale and Catherine Schnell Citizens Representative of the Medicine Hat Metis District, to chat about the celebrations in Medicine Hat, what the week means to the Métis community and how everyone can get involved!
