Calgary is under Stage 4 water restrictions, as water usage is at an unsustainable level.
Today is the official start to what Calgarians are hoping is the last round of water restrictions for the city and surrounding communities. It was announced in October that crews would be connecting the new feeder main into the water system, and this work would require four weeks of Stage 4 water restrictions.
What does this mean for me?
For Calgarians, Airdrie residents and other surrounding communities, this means no outdoor water usage whatsoever, including the flooding of outdoor skating rinks. The Stage 4 restrictions also require residents to limit indoor use. Showers should be 3 minutes or less, and dishwashers and laundry machines should only be run when full. Residents are also asked to be mindful about toilet flushing.
City officials say the goal is for residents to collectively use less than 500 million litres of water per day. The restrictions are set to be in place for four weeks as it stands right now, and is set to be in place for four weeks, starting today. Calgary and area will also still be under Stage 4 restrictions during the 113th Grey Cup, which takes place November 15th.
What do you think?
We took to the street to ask Calgarians their thoughts, and how the new restrictions might impact them. First, we spoke with a gentlemen that asked to remain anonymous.
We got to speak with the owners of Kukuruku Crispy Chicken, and asked about how the restrictions might impact their business.
We spoke with local resident Dustin Oakley, and asked about his take on the new restrictions.
