The City of Calgary announced on Thursday that three office buildings in downtown will be repurposed. Two will be converted into residential buildings, and one will be converted into a hotel.
The Dominion Centre at 665 Eighth Street S.W. will be refitted to support 132 new homes, with 25% being listed at affordable prices.
The conversion of Palliser One at 125 9th Avenue S.W. has already been in development and is entering its second stage of conversion. When it’s done, 395 one- and two-bedroom units will be made from the vacant office space in the building.
Originally, Canadian Centre at 833 Fourth Ave. S.W. was slated for an office-to-residential transformation, like the other two listed above. Thursday’s announcement brought a pivot to that original plan, with the office place set to transform into a 226-suite hotel called Element by Westin. There’s no opening date set for the hotel yet.
