Calgary Police have charged one woman in relation to submitting multiple fraudulent dental insurance claims resulting in nearly $100,000 worth of false claims.

A joint investigation originally brought to CPS by the insurance provider, saw several claim discrepancies submitted by one dentist from All About Family Dental.

This led to police collecting enough evidence to support a criminal charge based on discrepancies and false billings affecting 53 patients between June 2015 and June 2021, totaling nearly a $100 000 in fraudulent claims.

None of the patients were aware of the false claims until after the investigation.

On Nov. 6, 2023, the suspect turned herself into a Calgary Police Service district office and was arrested without incident.

As a result, Alena Vladimiro SMADYCH, 53, is charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police by calling 403-266-1234.
