Sharing knowledge and lived experiences are told not only through recorded history but also through physical imagery.
For the past five years, the Calgary Central Library (CPL) has had a local Indigenous artist in residence to offer a paid experience to further their career as an artist.
The 2023 artist residence was Kristy North Peigan whose work can be seen through out the City of Calgary on various fire engines and buses.
Peigan’s most recent work on display as part of the Calgary Zoo and Wilder Institute’s newly renovated North America exhibit.
To learn more about what the residence has to offer, CJWE spoke with Anishinaabewe artist and CPL’s Indigenous Placemaking Program Development Facilitator Jasmine Macgregor who helps artists bring their visions to life at the Library and Kate Schutz the CPL’s Service Design lead who designs evidence-based programs and services in arts and culture for those who visit CPL.
