An air quality alert was extended Tuesday morning to cover the city of Calgary. Smoke from wildfires burning across the country has descended on parts of southern Alberta.
The warning says the wildfire smoke is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility, with conditions likely fluctuating hour by hour.
Those who work outdoors or who have sensitive lungs or other conditions, such as heart disease, are recommended to be cautious and to reduce activity if breathing becomes difficult.
If severe symptoms develop, you should contact a health-care provider,.
The special air quality statement also covers much of central and northern Alberta.
To find relief from the smoky air, it is recommended to visit places with clean, cool air, such as shopping malls or libraries. While at home, windows should be kept shut, if temperatures indoors are tolerable.
90 wildfires were burning across Alberta, and dozens more were also blazing across British Columbia and Saskatchewan, as of Monday,
Smoke from fires across Western Canada is expected to drift into southern Alberta over the next 24 hours.
