A collaborative project between Solar Krafte and Beargrass Solar has been given the go ahead to build a portion of their solar farm project that is about 6.5 km west of Brooks along Highway 36.
The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) said part of the project can begin, In their decision last week.
A detailed vegetation assessment must be completed to determine if it holds native grasslands or not, before a decision is made regarding construction on the north half of Section 18.
The commission approved a portion of the solar project, last May. They did not approve construction on Section 24, Township 18, Range 16 because it potentially impacted native grassland.
An amendment was made to the project, in January of this year which was reduced from 400 megawatt to 360 megawatts. It also included 165 acres of land west of the original project area. The AUC approved a written process, instead of an oral hearing.
