September 22 is Siksika Day which marks the anniversary of the signing of Treaty 7. Treaty 7 was the last of the numbered Treaties that was made between the Government of Canada and First Nations of the great planes.
Siksika Nation and the Strathmore Library are hosting events to recognize the importance of the day.
The Siksika support center is hosting a Pow wow which will be taking place at 3:00 on September 21 in the Siksika Powwow Arbour.
The Pow Wow will feature dance specials, drummers, ribbon skirt and owl dance competitions. This event
The Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park will be having a BBQ on September 22 that is open to everyone and will feature a BBQ, Handgame tournament and Famer’s Market. Blackfoot Crossing is where Treaty 7 was signed.
The library, in Strathmore, will have family activities, traditional food and story time with an Elder, this event is free to attend on September 22nd from 1-4 pm.
