On November 22, Stoney Nakoda Health Services cut the ribbon signaling the newly official opening of the newly expanded health Centre located in the town of Mini Thni.
Since 1998 when the facility was first built, the needs have grown by two hundred percent.
The new facility broke ground back in April of 2022, to double the space to an 18,000sq foot facility to offer more programing to the community.
Stoney Health Services along with the Chief and Councils of: Goodstoney, Bearspaw and Chiniki, contracted Edmonton A&E Architecture and Engineering group to help with the design and construction.
CJWE met up with Keith Nunais who was the architect for the project and shared why the expansion was more beneficial than a new facility.
The new Centre cost approximately 15-million dollars to construct which allows many community members to not travel long distances for health services.
New programs will include dental and optometry offices, walk-in clinics for check-ups and vaccinations, x-rays machines and labs for onsite diagnostics.
CEO of Stoney Health Services Aaron Khan shared with CJWE how the newly renovated facility will play a role as the Iyarhe Nations grows.
With Flu season here, part of the new programming at the Centre will include a weekend walk-in clinic to make vaccinations more available.
More information can be on the Stoney Health Services website.
