The province of Alberta will be expanding it’s sheriffs program to add six new positions between Edmonton and Calgary.
The Alberta’s sheriffs’ safter communities and neighborhoods (SCAN) unit will be adding two positions in Calgary and four in Edmonton. The positions will help investigate and address criminal activity at problem properties in and around the two cities.
In Edmonton, the SCAN team investigated 2,088 properties and 1,985 cases in Calgary.
In addition to the new positions, a new regional office was established in Lethbridge in early November, with six investigators assigned to southern Alberta.
Between Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton, twelve of the twenty planned positions for 2023 have been filled.
