The City of Lethbridge is expanding its OKI sign initiative for the new year.
‘Oki’ is the Blackfoot word for “greetings” or “welcome”. It became the City of Lethbridge’s official greeting in 2019.
During Reconciliation Week in fall 2022, the City worked alongside community partners and unveiled six unique OKI signs, which are now permanently hosted at each participating organization.
The City hopes to garner interest from different local organizations who would like to have their own OKI sign. Those interested need to show how they are working towards reconciliation locally and identifying opportunities to integrate Blackfoot culture and language into their regular business activities.
Applications for interested groups are open, with the deadline to submit set for January 15, 2024. More information, including how to apply can be found at the City of Lethbridge website.
