800 athletes are in Calgary this week for the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games, which run from February 27 to March 3.
Athletes, including 96 from Alberta will compete in eight sports at seven local venues. Events include Alpine and cross-country skiing, figure skating, snowshoeing and speed skating and more!
However, officials say with temperatures hovering around -20, all outdoor events have been cancelled on Tuesday.
The 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games officially begin Tuesday night in Calgary.
Calgary’s Olympic Stadium will host 1,500 spectators for the Opening Ceremony with 1,250 athletes, coaches and mission staff on hand as well.
