On March 16, the community of Calgary came together to remember and raise awareness for MMIWG2S+ at Big Four Roadhouse on the Calgary Stampede Grounds.
The Calgary Friendship Centre organized the Powwow to help with healing in the community.
Krista White of the Calgary Friendship Centre shared with Windspeaker Radio Network about how the powwow came to be.
At the Powwow, over five hundred members of the community gathered to remember family and friends who are no longer here.
For Jingle Dress Dancer and resident of Mini Thni Heather Ketchamonai, she will be dancing for those who can’t and help those heal.
With Red Dress Day taking place on May 5, it is important to not just treat gatherings like the Powwow as one-off events as MMIWG2S+ has not gone away.
