Explaining what the Calgary Stampede is can be a bit tricky, especially to someone who has never been to the ten days of Stampede.

The newly 30,000 square foot Sam Centre named after the late Robert Samuel Taylor a Calgary philanthropist who is succeeded by his son Don Taylor who grew up at the Stampede peeling potatoes for chips for his family’s burger stand donated $15 million dollars towards the project.
The project was funded through multiple donors who have ties to the greatest outdoor show on earth along with both Federal and Provincial Governments.
Guests will be able to learn about the history of the Stampede through various interactive activities which highlights every part of Stampede.
This includes the history of First Nation involvement at the Calgary Stampede and the Elbow River Camp experience which was done in collaboration with the Elbow River Camp Tepee holders.
Manager of Visitor Experience and Exhibits at the Sam Centre, Christine Leppard shares how First Nation stories are told throughout the Centre.
To help answer the question of “What does it feel like at the Calgary Stampede?” a special 15 minute 270 degrees multimedia experience puts visitors in the heart of Stampede in an experience that engages every sense.
The Sam Centre will be full open to the public on May 29 and will remain open year-round.
