With the Canada Day Long weekend approaching, Calgary officials are reminding residents to continue to conserve water as Calgary’s potable water uses was 500 million litres on June 27, which is over the threshold of 480 million litres which is needed for emergency response in the city.
Yesterday, City of Calgary announced that the water may return to normal on July 1, in time for Canada Day but, there are still two phases that must be completed before any restrictions are lifted.
This includes filling the feeder main, flushing the pipe from any debris, Alberta Health deems the water safe for consumption, and have the system stabilized.
Because of this, residents are encouraged to continue to reduce their water consumption until an official statement from the City that restrictions have been lifted.
While there is rain in the weekend forecast for the long weekend, City of Calgary is asking those floating along the Bow River to stay away from the North Shore by Edworthy Park as crew will be flushing unchlorinated water at that location.
As of noon on June 28, 16 AVE N.W. has reopened both east and westbound but, won’t be fully opened until crews complete flushing.
