Chinook Blast is about to kick off in Calgary, and while people will be taking all the action, a theatre production is challenging festival-goers to slow down.
Echoes of the Land is one of the latest productions in the 39 annual High-Performance Rodeo taking place during Chinook Blast that invites audiences to reflect on their relationship to the land.
That journey is guided through a sound bath of rhythm and song while combining the unique drumming styles of the Nakoda and Blackfoot with a hint of the country twang of the Prairies.
For drummer and vocalist Cedric Lightning of Goodstoney Nakoda says that mixing musical styles is not just creative but, a form of reconciliation.
Audiences will not only be introduced to a variety of flavours and with an unorthodox seating format as upright seating is available, but guests will also be able to take a seat on the floor in the middle of the instruments each person who attends Echoes to leave with a different experience as placement and personal experience will create a different outcome.
While audiences will be bathed in the music performed at Echoes Musical Director for the production Kris Demeanor explains that not all shows are about stimulation.
Echoes Preimers Friday Jan. 17 at the Ghost River Theatre located in Calgary’s southwest with tickets and showtimes available on the Theatre’s website.
