Redcliff RCMP have reported an uptick in break-and-enters to homes and businesses over the past couple of months. Staff Sergeant Michael Corty revealed that in 2024, there were around 52 break-ins at business locations in Redcliff and Cypress County. To reduce the risk of being targeted, Corty recommends a few security measures for business owners.
“Keeping your property tidy, using proper lighting, securing valuables, and locking vehicles are simple steps that can prevent theft,” said Corty. He also stressed the importance of alarm systems and CCTV, which can provide early alerts and help identify suspects.
In addition, Corty emphasized the value of tracking devices on equipment, which have helped recover stolen items and make arrests.
Redcliff RCMP offered these safety tips for business owners:
- Install motion-activated lights around entrances and parking areas.
- Trim landscaping to eliminate hiding spots.
- Secure doors and windows with deadbolts, strike plates, and shatter-resistant glass.
- Use sturdy fences and barriers to define boundaries.
- Keep valuable items hidden or in safes when the business is closed.
- Repair broken windows, fences, or lighting promptly.
- Use CCTV and alarm systems with motion detection for added security.
