The 2027 North American Indigenous Games will be hosted in Calgary, from July 25-31.
The games are held every four years to commemorate Indigenous heritage and athletic achievements.
Thousands of Indigenous youth from across Turtle Island, along with their families, coaches and friends will travel to Calgary, to unite for something bigger than sport — a celebration of the immense importance of Indigenous youth taking up space in sports that also shines light on the support rallied behind these young athletes.
With 16 different categories, there is something for everyone, from rifle shooting and archery to lacrosse and basketball.
Shannon Dunfield is the chair of the 2027 North American Indigenous Games committee.

The games will take place in the territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations), the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Îyâxe Nakoda (Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations). Calgary is also home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Districts 5 & 6.
North American Indigenous Games provides high-level international competition for Indigenous youth, such as Kainai Olympian, Apollo Hess, who won medals at the 2017 NAIG in Saskatchewan, spring-boarding him onto the Olympic stage.
