Lethbridge Police Service, in partnership with Alberta Sheriffs, has wrapped up their joint pedestrian safety traffic enforcement project.
Over March, the joint project had officers engage with approximately 300 parents and students, issued 16 tickets, and delivered numerous warnings at Lethbridge school and playground zones before and after classes started throughout the month of March.
This project was launched in response to numerous concerns raised by residents about safety around these zones.
Some of the educational moment’s officers passed along to pedestrians included keeping hoodies down to improve sightlines and staying off mobile devices.
Meanwhile, officers also informed motorists about obeying speed limits, parking too close to intersections, creating unsafe conditions for pedestrians, and making illegal U-turns.
LPS says they’ll continue to monitor school zones and high-traffic areas to encourage public safety throughout the spring.
