The City of Calgary has announced the opening of the Forest Bathing Trail at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Calgary’s very first trail dedicated to forest bathing.

This self-guided 1-kilometre loop allows residents and visitors to immerse themselves in nature and promote well-being.

Certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, the trail encourages sensory exploration and connection with the natural surroundings.

Originating in Japan in the 1980s, forest bathing, also known as “shinrin-yoku,” has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, boost creativity, and even lower blood pressure.

Carmen Hindson from Calgary Parks has emphasized the importance of being present in nature to appreciate its benefits.

The trail features five stations, each offering a unique QR code link to recorded invitations created by Ken Ouendag, an ANFT Certified Forest Therapy Guide.

These invitations guide users to connect with nature at their own pace. Printed versions are also available for those who prefer not to use their phones.

With seasonal changes to the invitations, the trail invites visitors to return throughout the year for a refreshing experience.
