The Alberta government is helping firefighters and fire service personnel access training.

Through the Fire Services Training Program grants, the Alberta government is supporting critical work with $500,000 in grants, which will be distributed to 90 recipients across the province, which includes municipalities, First Nations, and Métis settlements.

This Fire Services Training Program will help local firefighters and fire services personnel access training, which reflects the industry standards and meets the needs of their communities.

“When Albertans need them most, firefighters are always there for them,” the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Dan Williams, stated in a media release. “They put their lives on the line to protect ours, and we’re making sure they have the training needed to do their jobs safely and effectively. These investments will help local teams respond with the skill and confidence to protect Albertans.”

The training that’s supported through the program includes ice water rescues and hazardous material responses, as well as a wide variety of courses that make sure firefighters have the resources and preparation needed to keep Albertans safe.

All municipalities, First Nations, and Métis settlements are eligible to apply for grants, and they are responsible for determining the fire service needs for their community, which includes local fire service levels and organization, budgets, and training.
