The Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery has a submission callout for their Annual Juried Summer Exhibition, called Sight and Sound.

Artists are invited to submit their artwork to an art gallery that is sitting in a mountain pass in the southern part of the province.

The Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery has a submission callout for their Annual Juried Summer Exhibition, called Sight and Sound.

This exhibition is in collaboration with the Crowsnest Pass Community Orchestra, which is celebrating their 100th anniversary.

According to the Crowsnest Pass Art Gallery, this exhibition invited artists to examine the dynamic relationship between visual art and music.

“This exhibit seeks art that celebrates the vibrant musical history of Crowsnest Pass, and engages with the sensory connections between sight and sound,” the art gallery stated about this exhibition. “In celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Crowsnest Pass Community Orchestra, submissions for this theme can be artworks that focus on the connection between art and music: whether it be sensory, abstract, traditional, or an exploration of the way music and art connect us all. We encourage artists to submit work that represents or reimagines the relationship between what we see and what we hear.”

Music has been an accompaniment to the landscape of Crowsnest Pass, and the Crowsnest Pass Community Orchestra has preserved the legacy of multigenerational orchestral music within the small mountain community for a hundred years.

Through this exhibition, they aim to create an immersive experience where viewers are invited to both look and listen more deeply.

This annual juried exhibition has been around since 2004, and the art gallery selects, on average, 16 artists per year.

Once artists have made a submission to this exhibition, a jury will review them and evaluate all submission, which will be scored based on criteria, such as relevance to the curatorial statement, originality, and composition.

Once juried, those with the highest overall scores are selected to have their artwork on display.

Everyone is able to submit their artwork to the exhibition.

The deadline for submission is May 31, and the exhibition will run from June 20 to July 19 at the Crowsnest Public Art Gallery.

There will be an opening reception on June 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., which will have a performance from members of the Crowsnest Pass Community Orchestra.
