Members of Parks Canada attended a Travel Alberta event in Canmore alongside more than 10 Alberta based influencers to help improve visitor behavior and share safety messaging ahead of a busy summer season.

The event from Travel Alberta has been going on annually since 2019, but this will be the first year members of the Banff Field Unit will be attending. The event itself was used to help outline how tourists can interact with wildlife safely. With visitors increasingly relying on social media for trip planning and information, Parks Canada says getting influencers sending the right message will make a big difference.

Reminders include staying inside your vehicle during an encounter with wildlife and carrying bear spray on hikes, things Parks Canada says are simple things, but important to get across to new visitors, as Banff itself is seeing record numbers of tourism, with US snowboarders and skiers seeking out Alberta’s late snowfalls and in general, this last year saw more than 4.5 million visitors to the park.
