The Tsuut’ina Police are warning of a coordinated sextortion network that is targeting teenage boys.

Sextortion is a form of blackmail that involves threatening to share intimate images or videos to friends, family, or to the public, unless money or more sexually explicit content is provided.

On top of that, it often involves scammers creating fake profiles on social media in order to build trust, then coercing victims, particularly youth, into sending explicit material.

According to the Tsuut’ina Police, a coordinated sextortion network, known as the “BM Boys”, is targeting teenage boys through TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat.

Also, the Tsuut’ina Police say these scams follow a pattern where offenders created fake profiles of young women, build trust, request intimate images, then threaten to share them unless money is paid.

Demands often escalade.

To stay safe, the Tsuut’ina Police advise people to no accept requests from unknown individuals, do not share personal information or intimate images, and be cautious of anyone asking to move conversations or keep secrets.

For parents of teens being targeted, stay calm and supportive, so not pay as payments often lead to further demands, save all messages and evidence, and report to police and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca).
