There is plenty to do this weekend, despite cooler weather

Even though it will be a cooler weekend, there is still plenty to do in Southern Alberta this weekend.

Let’s check out what will be happening this weekend:

 

Friday, April 24:

The Calgary Expo will be happening all weekend. As part of this event, people will get to check out pop culture items and meet movie stars.

The Museum of the Highwood in High River will be open all weekend, and their new exhibit, Inspired To Create: Art of the Highwood is on display, which showcases artwork inspired by the Highwood area.

The Okotoks Art Gallery has a pair of new exhibits.

One of the exhibits is Earthly Delights, by Neil McClelland, which reflects upon the human delight in gardens.

The other exhibit is Ruin & Reclamation: Re-iterated by Beany Dootjes, which repurposes men’s business attire and other textiles into oversized insects.

These exhibits will be on display until June 26.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Medicine Hat, people will be able to learn how to play disc golf. This will be happening at the Big Marble Go Centre.

People will be able to head down to the Old Church Theatre in Okotoks for a good laugh. From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Yuk Yuk’s On Tour! Will be keeping people entertained.

The Brooks Bandits will be taking on the Sherwood Park Crusaders at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks, with puck drop happening at 7 p.m.

 

Saturday, April 25:

As part of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, there is an Indoor Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cypress Centre. At this event, people will be able to sell items.

At the Okotoks Rec Centre, the Foothills Spring Expo will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. At this event, there will be over 200 vendors, food trucks, and more. This will also be happening on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legacy Park Pavilion in Lethbridge is an Earth Day Community Cleanup. As part of this event, people will help to cleanup Legacy Park. All supplies will be provided.

The Child & Youth Artisan Market will be happening at the Okotoks United Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. People will be able to explore innovative creations.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge, people will be able to learn about embroidery. This is part of ARTLab at the Hess Gallery at the university.

In Coaldale, the Vox Musica Choral Society, joined by Ventus Women’s Choir, will present “Spring Sing”. This will be happening at the Gem of the West Museum, and people will enjoy works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, and more. This starts at 3 p.m.

It’s Community Day in Medicine Hat. From noon to 4 p.m., people will be able to head down to the Big Marble Go Centre and enjoy free swimming, nerf wars, bouncy castles, and more.

From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Piikani Nation Arbour, there is a War Veterans Society Memorial Pow Wow.

At the Viking Rentals Event Centre in Okotoks, there is a Dinner for a Dog event, which will collect donations to help a military veteran a service dog. This gala starts at 5:30 p.m.

Also at the Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat, from 6 to 8 p.m., is Kinsmen Free Swim. No registration is required.

At the Yates Memorial Theatre in Lethbridge, people will be able to experience a Ukrainian cultural dance as part of Vesna: Celebrate Spring! A Ukrainian Cultural Dance Show. This will take place from 7 to 9 p.m.

 

Sunday, April 26:

From 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Okotoks Cinemas, there will be launch party to announce the 10th Okotoks Film Festival. At this event, there will be a sneak peek of the trailers for the films that will be part of the festival.
