Call for submissions will see plaques placed around iconic art gallery

The Leighton Art Centre, which was once home to artist Alfred Crocker (A.C.) Leighton, sits on 80 acres in the foothills south of Calgary, and has unobstructed views of the Rocky Mountains.

Currently, they have a call for submissions, which will see plaques placed in several locations around the site.

As part of Words to Wander To: Your Writing At Leighton Art Centre, they are looking for people to submit land-based writings that respond to nature in some way, which will then be turned into plaques that will be placed throughout the walking paths on the Leighton Art Centre property.

Unleash Press’ Executive Director Jen Knox and Editorial Director Ashley Holloway explain more about this call for submissions.

Ashley Holloway further explains.

The submissions period opened on January 15 and will be running until May 27, and Holloway says they have already received some amazing entries.

Once selected, the entries will be converted to small, weather resistant wooden plaques, and placed around the Leighton Centre property.

On top of that, author sites and works will be promoted through either a link or a QR code.

While they do have other visual, land-based pieces on site, this is the first time they have done a literary exhibition like this.

Knox explains what they are looking for.

Halloway added that they would pick the top ten, then get the Leighton Centre to help make the final decision on the top five.

Everyone is able to submit writing to this exhibition, and in fact, they have even received submissions from south of the border.
