The Calgary Fire Department says a child was pulled from a community lake over the weekend and sent to hospital.
Crews responded Sunday evening to a report of a suspected drowning at Mahogany Lake in the southeastern part of the city.
Witnesses told firefighters that the youth had been playing basketball before he jumped off the dock and into the lake.
Bystanders attempted to help him, but said he went below the surface of the water.
Responding firefighters searched the area but reported poor visibility in the water and cold temperatures.
A rescue boat was then deployed, as well as a helicopter, and the child was pulled from the water at a depth of more than six metres.
EMS say the child was taken to the South Health Campus in life-threatening condition.
