Since 2019, Alberta Health Services has had two mobile units providing mobile mammograms to eligible individuals in rural and Indigenous communities. It serves over 120 communities each year, with one in seven Albertan women expected to develop breast cancer in their lifetime, this program looks to make mammograms more accessible, and helping to catch warning signs earlier.

The mobile units were funded through the Alberta Cancer Foundation, in partnership with the Grand Prairie Regional Health Foundation and the Lights Health Foundation. The vans are also managed by ScreenTest, a provincial screening program that is provided by Primary Care Alberta, and aims to increase the number of women in eligible age ranges receiving regular screenings.

This month, on May 22nd and 23rd, one of the mobile trailer will be set up in Fort Macleod’s health centre. The screens will be free of charge for those aged 45-74. Anyone wanting an appointment can call 1-800-667-0604, or click here for more details.
