The Town of High River monitors the Highwood River each spring, providing updates to residents, which began last week.

This week, the Town of High River states that the Highwood River’s current snowpack level is on the low end of the seasonal average for this time of year, and is currently at 319.6 mm of snow water equivalent.

This time last week, the snowpack was sitting at 469.20 mm of snow water equivalent.

The current flow rate of the Highwood River, below the Little Bow Canal, though, is slightly above normal at 39 cubic metres per second.

Typically, at this time of year, the flow rate ranges from 12 to 30 cubic metres per second, with the highest level being recorded in 2013 at 1820 cubic metres per second.

While there are light precipitation and windy conditions in the forecast, no significant changes in the river levels are expected at this time.
