There is lots to do in Southern Alberta this long weekend, despite the threat of snow.

Let’s take a look at what is happening this weekend:

 

Friday, May 15:

At the Museum of the Highwood in High River, their exhibit, Inspired To Create: Art of the Highwood is on display, which showcases artwork inspired by the Highwood area.

The Okotoks Art Gallery has a pair of exhibits for people to check out.

One of the exhibits is Earthly Delights, by Neil McClelland, which reflects upon the human delight in gardens.

The other exhibit is Ruin & Reclamation: Re-iterated by Beany Dootjes, which repurposes men’s business attire and other textiles into oversized insects.

These exhibits will be on display until June 26.

At the Environmental Education Centre in Okotoks, people will learn about endangered species from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of Nature Fridays.

At the Okotoks Art Gallery Studio, the Art for Tots: Pom Pom Flowers event will allow toddlers to participate in artwork from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

From 2 to 4 p.m. at McMan Family Network in Okotoks, people can learn simple art skills as part of the Upstart Art event. Programs are free and snacks are included.

The Okotoks Film Festival will be hosting their 10th Annual 48 Hour Filmmaking Challenge this weekend. As part of this challenge, teams will be given a genre, prop, and line of dialogue to create a film in 48 hours. People can still sign up for this event.

 

Saturday, May 16:

Treasure Hunters rejoice, the Western Wheel Parade of Garage Sales is taking place in Okotoks from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the 24th annual parade, where people can find treasures for sale.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Henderson Lake Park in Lethbridge, Pawtraits in the Park will be taking place. This is hosted by Pet & Animal Advocacy Care Team will be doing pet portraits to raise money for their Care Closet program.

The High River Little Britches Parade will be starting at 10 a.m. in High River. On top of a day filled with western fun for everyone, Sarah Scott from CJWE will be in the parade.

From 1 to 4 p.m. in Medicine Hat, people are able to participate in an Open House at the historic Ewart-Duggan Residence, which is a preserved 19th century home in the heart of Medicine Hat.

At the Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat is a free-swimming event from 6 to 8 p.m., where family and friends can have some fun.

Also, at the Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat, there is a teen takeover from 7 to 9 p.m., which gives teens non-stop fun for two hours.

 

Sunday, May 17:

It is Curbside Giveaway Day in Okotoks. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., residents are able to place their reusable unwanted items out on the curb, so others can come by and find the treasures diverted from the trash.
