Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service have released a statement on the Dances with Wolves actor conviction.

The Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service have released a statement on the Dances with Wolves actor conviction.

Nathan Chasing Horse was convicted of 13 charges, mostly in connection to the sexual assault of three women, and has been sentenced to life in prison.

“Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service acknowledges the conviction of Nathan Chasinghorse[sic] in Las Vegas and the deeply sensitive and painful emotions this case evokes within our communities,” the Tsuut’ina Nation Police stated in a release. “The conviction represents an important acknowledgment of the harm inflicted upon survivors and an opportunity to continue addressing systems that perpetuate violence against Indigenous peoples.”

The Tsuut’ina Nation Police recognize the courage and resilience of the survivors who had come forward and shared their truth, even though they were facing immense difficulty.

“Your bravery in sharing your stories is vital in holding individuals accountable and ensuring the safety of our communities. It is essential that we stand alongside survivors and provide them with the support, care, and advocacy they need,” the Tsuut’ina Nation Police added in the statement.

They are now encouraging anyone who is affected by this case or any case of violence to seek support, as resources are available and the Tsuut’ina Nation Police are available to assist in locating those services.
