The Gift is a reality show filmed here in Alberta, and features 12 creatively gifted minds that are put through challenges in order to win a $100,000 gift from matron of the arts, The Sugar Mama, or Therese “Tag” Goulet.

Wednesday night was the Canadian screening of the show, and featured the first two episodes and a PINK carpet for guests, cast and show creators to walk on.

The show itself is deeply entrenched in Indigenous values, and one thing that was brought up a lot, was the collaboration aspect of the show. Casting was done in a very intentional manner, where instead of picking potentially explosive or controversial characters to create drama, The Gift brought out creatives that could collaborate with one another. The cast also features 50% 2SLGBTQ+ members.

We were invited out to the premier, and had the chance to chat with many of the cast members about their experience, what their favorite part was, and what it was like to collaborate with 11 other creatives.

Firstly, we chatted with Amanda Gendron, cast member on the show.

Next, we chatted with Bryan Francisco.

Then, we had a chance to chat with the Dream Angel Cowboy of Canada, Robert Adams.

Afterwards, we caught up with small town drag queen legend, Francheska Dynamites.

Last but not least, we got to chat with Paula Cobo Botello about her experience.

As it stands right now, this show has only been picked up for US streaming, but is working it’s way to Canadian streaming and TV. You can click here to find more information about the show and how to watch this collaboration of creatives unfold.
