With the rising costs associated with funeral services, Siksika Nation has increased their Wake Allowance, allowing families to better manage the stress of losing a loved one amid current economic conditions.
The Council has officially approved an increase to the Wake Allowance, from $1,000 to $2,000. The increase is effective immediately, and is intended to help families lighten the burden during an already difficult time.
The Siksika Membership Department has been directed to update all policies and procedures, and are communicating the changes with all departments.
With this change, the Treasury Board will be adjusting program budgets to reflect the changes to the allowance, and continuous financial monitoring will occur to help ensure the sustainability of the program.
