June is National Indigenous History Month (NIHM), a celebration of the distinct cultures and traditions of the various First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, the original inhabitants and stewards of this land we now call Canada.
Five of Calgary’s leading cultural organizations have joined forces to help advance Truth and Reconciliation and celebrate Indigenous cultures. Spearheaded by the Werklund Centre, the Calgary Cultural Coalition for Truth and Reconciliation brings together the Calgary Public Library, The Confluence, Heritage Park, National Music Centre, and Werklund Centre.
Guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers from Treaty 7 Nations, the coalition aims to create opportunities for learning, understanding, and active reconciliation. Throughout June, the organizations will host a variety of public programs and events designed to elevate Indigenous voices and celebrate Indigenous cultures.
