By Jackson Fontaine Jun 5, 2026 | 11:47 AM

Wildfire season has begun in Southern Alberta, coinciding with the arrival of warmer spring temperatures. Wildfires can be sparked by various sources, including unattended campfires and discarded cigarette butts.

Steve Debienne, Fire Chief for the High River Fire Department, tells CJWE that they recently experienced a week of beneficial rain, which has alleviated some wildfire concerns for the time being.

Debienne noted that there are currently no fire bans in the High River area. However, families should remain vigilant and stay informed about any potential fire bans or evacuations.
