Siksika Off-Reserve Affordable Housing (SORAH) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Erin Woods Indigenous Housing Development located at 295 Erin Woods Drive SE in Calgary.

The project follows the award of land at book value through The City of Calgary’s Non-Market Land Sale Program, which was paired with up to $4.5 million in capital funding through the federal government Housing Accelerator Fund at $75,000 per door, and a further $4.3 million in capital funding through Maa’too’maa’taapii Aako’iyii’piaya, The City’s Indigenous Housing Program.

CJWE talks with Samuel Crowfoot, Chief of Siksika Nation, he says “Housing is a fundamental human need, and affordable housing has become increasingly difficult to find across Canada. Siksika Nation is both excited and grateful for this announcement.  With nearly half of our Nation’s membership living off-reserve—many of whom reside in Calgary—this project will have a meaningful and lasting impact for our members and their families”.

The occupancy is expected to be on January 2028.
