“Safer Calgary Campaign” Sees Increased Police Presence In Southern C-Train Stations

The Calgary Police Service has released photo’s of weapons seized by officers who are conducting increased patrols, as part of of the cities “Safer Calgary Campaign”.

The campaign looks to address crime concerns, open-air drug use, and other dangerous behaviors through increased police presence.

Since the middle of April, officers have conducted targeted enforcement at stations like Somerset-Bridlewood, Fish Creek-Lacomb and Shawnessy stations.

According to CPS, 167 warrants have been executed, 182 court summonses have been issued, and nine criminal code charges have already been laid.

“High-visibility enforcement initiatives like this send a clear message that criminal activity and disorder impacting our communities will not be tolerated,” said District 8 Insp. Darry Midtdal. “Our officers will continue these coordinated, targeted efforts to disrupt offending behaviour and address ongoing public safety issues affecting residents, businesses and transit users.”
