Premier Smith Says Cowboys Park Issue Plagued By “Fun Police”

By Benjamin Gerow Jun 20, 2026 | 11:19 AM

“Looks like the fun police have struck again in Calgary, this time targeting the Calgary Stampede music scene.” Danielle Smith said in a Facebook post, alongside a headline discussing the current controversy regarding noise restrictions on Cowboys Park.

The former Millennium Park will be home to a massive tent from Penny Lane Entertainment during Stampede. The same thing happened last year, and resulted in 126 noise related complaints from residents in the area, as concerts in 2025 were running past 2 A.M on weeknights.

The City and Penny Lane have a sponsorship agreement, but it’s one that has many details under lock-and-key, even from Mayor Jeromy Farkas and his staff. Since, Jeromy has been advocating to make details of the deal public for Calgarians.

Now Saturday morning, Premier Danielle Smith has weighed in on the issue on social media.

“Stampede is one of Calgary’s signature events, attracting hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors who come to enjoy the attractions, live music, and the unique energy of our city, by reducing allowable noise levels and shutting shows down early on weeknights, the city will negatively affect hundreds of workers and create additional public safety and crowd-management problems due to guests leaving in a shorter timeframe. ” Smith wrote.
