Calgary police have charged multiple members of one family after they allegedly worked together to steal nearly $4,000 worth of jewelry from a store at Market Mall.
Officers were called to the northwest Calgary shopping centre on June 17 following the reported theft.
According to investigators, six family members entered the store as a group. While several adults distracted staff with conversation, a 16-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy allegedly took several pieces of jewelry. The family then left the store without paying.
The employee only discovered the items were missing after the group had departed.
Police located the two children and one adult family member elsewhere inside the mall. The remaining members were found sitting in a truck in the parking lot.
That truck turned out to be stolen, and a search uncovered additional items believed to have been taken from other stores.
Four family members now face charges, including a 16-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy, a 25-year-old woman, and a 34-year-old woman.
An eight-year-old and a nine-year-old were released into the care of their father, who was not charged in connection with the incident.
