Construction is underway on a major expansion and renovation of Piyami Lodge in Picture Butte, marking the end of nearly a decade of planning and advocacy.
The $27-million project will increase the lodge’s capacity from 32 units to 50, allowing more seniors to remain in their community.
The lodge was originally built in 1979.
Upgrades to the facility include air conditioning, walk-in showers, larger rooms, wider hallways and doorways to better accommodate residents who use mobility aids.
The lodge is directly connected to the Piyami Health Centre, which provides on-site medical services including X-rays, blood work, and doctor visits.
Piyami Lodge is already Picture Butte’s largest employer, with nearly 75 full-time and casual staff.
Construction will take two years and be completed in phases to allow residents to continue to live in the lodge while work is done.
