On Wednesday, July 29, the National Trust for Canada will host a free, family-friendly celebration at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump as part of a national initiative marking the 50th anniversary of Canada signing the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, an international treaty that recognizes and protects cultural and natural heritage places of outstanding value to humanity.
As we know, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump holds extraordinary cultural significance as a living site of Indigenous culture and history.
The event includes complimentary admission to the Interpretive Centre, a unique edition of the site’s drumming and dancing performances with invited special guests, and interactive, family-friendly activities highlighting the site’s World Heritage designation. It will also honour Elders from within the Blackfoot Confederacy who have been long-standing champions of preserving the site’s heritage.
CJWE had a chance to speak with Dr. Patricia Kell, CEO, National Trust for Canada more about this wonderful day of events:
