August marks the first month of Alberta’s new split Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) and the new Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) takes effect, and some Albertans are receiving incorrect amounts.
Some recipients say they have received no money at all, while others are looking at $200 less than usual.
Those on ADAP are supposed to receive $200 less a month until the transition period is complete in January of 2027, but according to the Assisted Living and Social Services Ministry, a technical issue related to the rollout of new payment processing software has caused delays in the payments.
The ministry is ensuring all payments will be corrected by Friday. The official opposition NDP is calling for ADAP to be scrapped in light of the technical failures.
